Brand activation in malls and public spaces: a practical guide

How to plan an activation that stops passers-by and gets them engaging with your brand, from choosing the spot to measuring results.

Brand activation means taking your brand to where your audience already is and giving them a short experience they remember: in a mall, a public space, a pop-up or a launch event. Unlike advertising, the audience takes part instead of just watching.

1. One clear idea

A passer-by decides in seconds whether to stop. The idea must read from a distance: a striking visual, a short message and a clear invitation to take part.

2. Location and timing

  • Pick a high-traffic spot with room for people to gather.
  • Check the mall's or venue owner's requirements early.
  • Tie timing to seasons, holidays and occasions.

3. A short interactive experience

  • A game or challenge lasting no more than a minute or two.
  • A photo station that's easy to share on social media.
  • Hands-on product trial where possible.
  • A giveaway tied to the brand, not a generic gift.

4. Fabrication built for real use

Public spaces mean crowds, children and long operating hours. Materials must be durable, safe and easy to clean, and set-up and strike should be quick and outside peak times.

5. Measure what matters

Decide before you start what success means: number of participants, data captured, social shares, or sales during the activation period.

At 7G we design the activation concept and its interactive experiences, and fabricate and install the elements. We also work as a delivery partner for agencies that design the activation — as with the Qiddiya City National Tennis Centre space, delivered with Activation Nation.
